Bashing My Head
on the Brick Wall of Revision

People often express amazement about how much work I do. Oops. That sounds very conceited. I just mean I work on lots of things at once, finish them, and squeeze every moment of time until it squeaks. That’s not necessarily a good thing, by the way.

And I’m not a person who gets writer’s block. At least not overall. Sometimes I get tired of one project or am not sure where to go next. But in that case, I simply switch to another project. I often have 4-6 projects on rotation at any given time, so finding another one to work on isn’t too hard.

About now, you’re probably thinking, Get over yourself! So I thought I’d share a struggle I’m having right now. A project I don’t know what to do with. A time my head is clanking like a hollow tin piggy bank, totally empty of ideas.

Here’s the deal.

My wonderful editor at Clarion has bought two of my collections. (Yes, I feel incredibly lucky!) And, what’s more, she really likes a third collection. But she felt it needed more of a narrative arc, and she asked me to revise it.
