I’ve had a lot going on in life lately, and my online community has been so supportive, which I greatly appreciate! But I feel whiny, and I want to concentrate for a bit on something each day that makes me smile. I want to make sure I appreciate all that I have.
Today, I’m appreciating Laura Shovan’s Last Fifth Grade of Emerson Elementary. This novel in verse is not only funny and sweet, it’s skillfully woven and full of strong, individual voices. It is reminding me, as I read, that every big event is complicated. It will have bad effects (even good things) and good effects (even bad things). Laura’s keen eye and wonderful words and voices are making it a delight to read this. I’m trying to slow myself down because I don’t want it to be over.
I’m thankful for writers who bring stories and issues into focus in such a warm and entertaining way. And who make me think.
