WATER CAN BE… Trailer #2 (Family-Style!)

Excited that Water Can Be… got a lovely review in this month’s Booklist:

Like its predecessor, A Leaf Can Be … (2012), this picture book explores an aspect of the natural world in a way that is imaginative but ultimately informative. A fine choice for reading aloud in the classroom or at home.
? Carolyn Phelan

Now, on to this week’s trailer. It?has me on video. Oi. I am not comfortable on camera–gee, can you tell? I got my whole family in on the act so that I don’t have to be in it very much, though:>) And I thought it might be fun for kids to actually see me talking to them. So…here goes.

If you can’t access Youtube at your school, here’s the video on my website.

I’m still working on the teaching guides and other materials, and the countdown?clock is ticking! Ack!

Please’share the trailer if you like it. And click below if you’d like to add Water Can Be… to your Goodreads to-read (or other) shelf. Thanks!

  1. This is sweet and will appeal to a different audience than the first one, but both work. Decisions, decisions. By the way, you look and sound just like the “Laura” image formed in my brain after seeing your photo and participating in your blog. Thanks for sharing and for the value you place in your readers.

    1. Thanks, Martha–you’re very kind. Yes, this one is really meant for educators to share with kids before reading the book, while the basic one is more to give grown-ups an idea of what the books is about. I was so stiff–totally the opposite of how I am on school visits. Cameras terrify me!

      1. The differences add intrigue to the author Laura Purdie Salas. I didn’t observe stiffness, just a calm about you that your targeted audience may need. That Laura serves a distinct purpose, as does the effervescent Laura (my word from the comment in your reply about the normal school visit Laura) who would convey fun and excitement in learning.

        1. Oh, good! To me, I sound very persnickety in this video. Glad it’s not coming across that way too much! Thanks, Martha.

  3. It’s fun to see the family using water, Laura. I thought it was good, and like both the trailers! It’ll be out soon! So exciting!

  5. Wonderful video, Laura! I loved that you focused on ways that we all use water and that your whole family took part. What a guy your husband must be to peek out of the shower for the camera–and who can resist a water-lapping beagle!

    1. Thanks, Buffy:>) My family were pretty good sports about it! My husband is such a good guy…

  7. Laura, as usual, you are better than you believe!! The trailer is really very nice and I think it will garner a lot of interest in your new book. When working on links and curriculum lists, don’t forget Project Wet, a companion program of Project Learning Tree and Project Wild. Your book would be a great resource for any of these three, which all have water connections. Your books are so full of light and joy, as well as information!! Congratulations on that really positive review.

    1. Thanks, Nancy, for the kind words and the mention of Project Wet. I’ll have to check that out:>)

  9. Very cute. I finally got around to picking up A Leaf Can Be a couple days ago. I really enjoyed it.

  11. Love the video, and the music. I wish there were some way you wouldn’t be so hard on yourself about being on camera. I’ve always found you engaging. Also, the music sounds like the show ECHOES on NPR.
