A Forest Riddle-ku

Hiya, everyone. If you are a subscriber to the blog, you should have received an email notification about this post. My awesome web designer worked with WordPress Support yesterday and got everything straightened out. Thanks! And if you’re not a subscriber but you’d like to be, you can do that in the sidebar to the right. Just make sure you’re inside this actual post (click on the title if you’re not sure) and then enter your email in the “Subscribe Via Email” widget in the right sidebar.

For Poetry Friday today, I’m sharing a poem from Riddle-ku: Haiku for Very Close Reading, part of my 30 Painless Classroom Poems series.  Next week, Tuesday, Sep. 22 — Thursday, Sep. 24, the Kindle edition of Riddle-ku will be on sale for 99 cents. If you do purchase it, I’d be very grateful for your honest review on Amazon when you finish it.

I'm a pencil crop, from Riddle-ku

The answer, as you probably guessed from the background image, is TREES! This poem was inspired by birch trees along the North Shore (of Lake Superior) here in Minnesota. I love birch trees:>)

Dittymaster Michelle Heidenrich Barnes at This Little Ditty has the Poetry Friday Roundup and a wonderful original poem up today about a memorable childhood moment. Enjoy!

    1. Thank you, Linda! And, maybe you already saw this, but I can’t tell–the image in my blog post itself isn’t the book cover. It’s just a pretty little poem thingy I made with an app:>) The actual cover can be seen at http://amzn.to/1FRIdOe . Like I said, you might have actually looked at the book cover–just didn’t want to mislead you if not. And yes, I’ll be reminding folks next week. Happy Friday!

  1. I received it, too, Laura. Glad you had it all straightened out. This is terrific, lovely picture, too. Glad to hear about your Riddle-Ku, which when you were sharing, I shared with all my colleagues. They’re terrific!

  2. This is wonderful I love poem and the pic erasing the sky simply beautiful 🙂 Laura I had a poem and pic in my Newspaper today

    1. Thanks, Tabatha. They’re my very favorite tree, I think. Though spruce and weeping willow and others I don’t know the names of delight me, too. But a forest of birches is so light and beautiful!

  3. The dittymaster approves. 😉 This small poem has such grandeur, Laura. I love how the trees stretch from ground to sky.

    1. Thanks, Michelle. I love the word grandeur, because birch forests always look so simple but so grand, somehow, especially in autumn…

  4. Look at this cool new look! I got the email, too. Look forward to getting Riddle-Ku.

  5. I too got your e‑mail! And I love this riddle-ku. I can just imagine a row of pencils in place of those trees, points down, scribbling away on the ground.
