City Bird [15 Words or Less]

Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.

I love that even in a townhome very near a city’s downtown, I can look out my window and most days catch glimpses of birds, squirrels, butterflies and more.

Photo: Laura P. Salas

This image taken through my kitchen window makes me think of several things:

  1. “4, 3, 2, 1. Ready or not, here I come!”
  2. slippery surfaces
  3. what would happen to a bird afraid of plants?

And here’s my first draft. The tone of the title doesn’t match the tone of the poem, but…that’s a first draft for you!

It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)

  1. Sumac! I grew up with the stuff.…pretty and lots of warnings from the parents about not touching. I like the I Spy.…and Hide and Seek interplay. Fun!

    City bird
    wild dreams
    green leaves
    colorful schemes
    Kitchen window
    Hope’s opening

  2. Aria to the Day

    Stage right
    Sun’s spotlights on
    Cheetle cheep chirp cheet
    Lilting morning song

  3. Good morning. First image for me was a tiny lump behind a drapery, little feet shining for all the world to see! Your “hide-and-seek prompted the verse.

    Baby’s First Hide ‘n Seek/Self Disclosure

    Where’s Junior?
    wiggles
    Anyone seen Junior?
    giggles

    Oh no, he’s gone!
    here I am mommy!

    1. Laura, I’m replying to my own comment; for some reason mine bypassed the normal confirmation process.

  4. Bird-brained Scheme Gone Awry

    Dad is mad.
    I was bad.
    Stuck in the corner-
    now I’m sad.

  5. Combining challenges: inktober word today is bait, daily haiku, and 15 words…

    Sparrow, take the bait
dangling from a string, you see
    a city feast.

    Margaret

  6. this might be way over 15v but it’s what I thought of to write
