Day 29: A Special Day? (#NationalPoetryMonth2020)

Well, it’s a strange time to launch a book, isn’t it? I’ll be honest. Book publication days are typically mostly normal work days for me, anyway. Because a book launch party doesn’t usually happen on the publication day itself, the day itself is kind of anti-climactic, you know? But we usually go out for a meal or a treat to make some official marking of the day.

This year, with Secrets of the Loon, all the in-person events have, of course, been canceled. We knew that weeks ago. But with restaurants closed, too, we also knew there would be no special treat or meal out. And it was cloudy, gray, and rainy all day. I usually enjoy such weather, but it kind of felt like the clouds spitting in my face. (I know–wallowing here.) And here was my pub day treat:

Luckily, my mood kicked itself out after a couple of hours! Here’s my poem from yesterday.

Thank you, family and friends, for making my publication day special :>)

  1. I’m hoping that social media is helping you and other authors who are publishing during this time, Laura. My book will be here sometime. Ordering from my local Indie is a great thing, & even better, they are overwhelmed with orders, so receiving my order takes a lot of time! Congratulations on this new one. I’m sure it will be wonderful. Those peach roses and golden mums are a gift that’ll smile at you for a long while!

    1. THank you, Linda–they do! Every time I pass the dining table, I grin:>)

  2. What a thoughtful daughter! Glad your family and friends made the day special, despite the difficulties. (And it’s awfully hard not to wallow these days.) Sending you loon calls of congratulations.

  3. Laura, congratulations on Secrets of the Loon! What a sweet daughter! I empathize with you about your cancellations. Thank you for sharing your feelings and beautiful poem. I like how your mood changed in the poem. I love the line, “raindrops rested on maple leaves.” Saturday, my friend and I hiked a short mountain and then on to a pond. Fortunately, we saw two loons and heard their magical calls! Loons are one of my favorite birds. I’m excited and looking forward to reading your new book about loons.

    1. Oh, Gail, I am so jealous. But I’m glad you enjoyed a magical mountain hike with loon calls. What a wonderful respite from the real world.

  4. I am so glad it turned out to be a special day after all!
As I said to another friend, I think all of us with releases this year are going to experience this; this virus isn’t going to go away quickly, unfortunately, so we’ll all have to be cheering squads for one another. Go you! Go, loons!

    1. Thank you, Tanita–I fear you’re right. But hooray for cheering squads!
