Day 14: Goodbye to Jack (#NationalPoetryMonth2020)

Today’s #waterpoemproject poem explores a painful memory from 2017…

Like most everybody else, I’m experiencing lots of upheavals lately! I have no huge National Poetry Month plans–just hoping toCopy of Day X: (#NationalPoetryMonth2020) share an imagepoem here each day (or as often as I can). I’m participating in Laura Shovan’s awesome #WaterPoemProject the best I can, so most of my poems will come from either that or from the PAD (Poem A Day) Challenge at Writers Digest. Grateful for the distraction of poetry and friends!

  1. Oh gosh. Salty ocean cascading down my cheeks now. Stirred a poignant memory of being with our Toby, hearing his final sigh. Still unbounded love for him!

  2. A sad moment and a sad poem. I’m sorry for your loss. I remember when it happened.

  3. What a heartbreaking morning. I’m looking at our very old dog as I read this and know that this day will be coming for us sooner rather than later.

  4. Such a sad but beautiful poem — have lived through a number of salty ocean moments and their memories seem harder today to relive.

  5. I feel your sadness and that ocean of salty tears. So hard to lose a loyal pet.

    1. Thanks, Margaret. Maddie and Jack were so close–I’m feeling it even more keenly with Maddie at home right now.

  6. Oh Laura, I feel your emotions. Remembering how we’ve been there with two of our cats and hoping my healthy, fluffy sixteen-year-old cat, Lovee dies on her own, instead of having to be the one to make the decision about that drug. “Salty ocean poured down my face,” is perfect. Powerful.

  7. Laura, this is such a touching poem and a beautiful way to describe a sad event: “the salty ocean poured down my face.”
