More Fantastic Student Equation Poems #PoetryFriday

Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.) PF friends, I can’t remember if I’ve already told you, but we’re moving at the end of this month (still in the Twin Cities), and our home and schedules are buried in boxes and question marks. I am posting some things I still want to share, but I apologize in advance for being less active in visiting your blogs in May and June. I miss you!

Last week, I shared some fabulous equation poems from Lebanon Junction Elementary School. (Thanks for your kind support of these awesome young writers!)

This week, I have more student equation poems! Nothing makes me happier than when a teacher tags me with student work! (I’m @LauraPSalas most places.) These wonderful poems were written by 4th graders and shared by teacher aslan_magic on Twitter. Aren’t they terrific? Science. Art. Emotion. Sound effects. Family. Color. It’s all there, encapsulated in these tiny little observations that pack a punch. Thank you so much for sharing these, @aslan_magic! And writers–great job! It made my day to read these :>)

The generous and lovely Irene Latham has the Poetry Friday Roundup at Live Your Poem this week!

  1. They’ve covered so many topics, Laura. It’s fun to think that they reflect their interests, too! You are busy with the visits & the moves. Whew! Best wishes for good days every day.

  2. Laura, what great poems these fourth graders wrote on different subjects and a great display! It’s wonderful that the teacher shared and thank you for sharing. I’m writing to you from Denver, CO. I’m visiting our oldest daughter, who recently moved here. Boxes here, too.

Red Rocks + blue sky + steep slopes + deer = jaw dropped

  3. Another crop of equation poems are here for our enjoyment! Thank you, Laura, for sharing. I am still opening boxes so I wish you well as you pack up yours.

  4. What a gift you have given kids (and teachers and adults) with your equation poems. Safe moving, Laura. Hoping it is an exciting time for you, opening up to new chapters and inspiration.

  5. “I enjoy the moving process,” said no normal person ever! It’s fantastic that students and teachers share their work with you, and I appreciate you sharing it with us. I’m looking forward to equation poems being a part of my routine when I go back into the classroom next year, and it’s great to see all of these sample/mentor texts. Thanks!

  6. Best wishes on your move. Thanks for sharing these equations about so many things, science, nature, colors, food. Endless possibilities!

  7. Oh, my goodness.…so many tasks to list when making a move. I hope things go smoothly. I look forward to knowing you are settled and happy with that. What a lovely crop of equation poems. You must just fill right up when you see that kids have written them and they are shared with you.

  8. Laura + Focus = Calm. Love these equation poems! Sending more good wishes for your pacing and move!

  9. Fabulous equations! Here’s one for you: (moving / stress + boxes) + time = happy relaxed future

(If you simplify that equation, it becomes “give it some time, it will all work out”)

  10. These are always delightful, Laura! And best of luck with the move!

  11. So much empathy with the moving! Hope it all goes well! Love these poems.
