Out of Time, by Laura Purdie Salas

Hi, teachers! This week, I’m sharing Cinderella poems from my new 30 Painless Classroom Poems book, Fairy Tale Garage Sale. Here’s one from the lady herself.

Out of Time

A Note from the Poet:

I love acrostics. They’re one of my favorite poetic forms. Usually, acrostic poems don’t rhyme, but I have fun playing with meter and rhyme in them. I especially had fun with castle/hassle!

[Addendum: In the printed book, the last line does not break onto a second line. But the image template I made for these poems I’m sharing wasn’t wide enough to accommodate the longer line:>( ]

  1. Laura,

This poem was fun. I don’t blame Cinderella for selling off her time pieces. Who needs the noise pollution. 😉

I don’t even wear a watch anymore. I used to wonder how people could do that. But now, time is posted everywhere–on your phone and computer as well as appliances, dash of the car, etc.

  5. Good morning (brrrrr 17 degrees down south) Laura. Acrostic poetry is one of my favorites. Free verse is easier but I enjoy the challenge of using rhyme and meter without having it read as forced or contrived. No resident of a castle deserves the hassle of time restraints! Stay warm.

    1. Brrrrrr, indeed! We’re at 10 degrees here in Mpls. I love winter, but I am feeling the cold! Yay for rhymed acrostics–I don’t see them too often. YOu stay warm, too:>)
