Check out the cool printable that the Poetry Friday Anthology folks created for my cinquain poem, “Fire!” As we?already know, and as sad national news is proving more than ever this week, firefighters are truly heroes who risk their lives for our safety. (This printable was created before that news broke.)
They have a number of other cool poem printables at their site, too. Great to post in your classroom or library. Or to model your own classroom project after.
I attended Janet Wong and Sylvia Vardell’s session about Poetry and the Common Core at ALA last weekend, and it was tremendous. I wish every single teacher in the country had the opportunity to see that. Their Poetry Friday Anthology approach is simple, fun, and effective. And getting to see them demonstrate it was terrific fun. Check out their anthologies!

So glad you like it, Keri. Isn’t it clever? I’ve done postcards about my books, but haven’t done a specific poem one before. I am totally stealing Pomelo Books’ idea and doing this for my next book. And maybe previous ones, too!

I love cinquains. I love how yours builds with the list at the end of the fourth line then lands on heroes.

This is very cool! My students will love this come Fall. Thanks for sharing this, Laura ‚and for your poem — love the way it closed with “heroes”…which is what fire fighting comes down to.
