poetryactions for Moonlight and It Is Night

Happy Poetry Friday! I’ve been to DC for NCTE and to Florida to visit family in the past month, which makes me feel a little discombobulated. The art in these picture books makes me feel like I’m home and all is right with the world.

Moonlight

Here I am reading this poetryaction:

It Is Night

And here’s this one:

Moonlight and It Is Night

The art in these books, especially Moonlight, just makes me so happy…

  1. Love your poetry responses, especially “moon is a pitcher/pouring silver liquid from the sky.” That line made me think of Kevin Henkes’ Kittens First Full Moon.

  3. These are both wonderful, Laura, but I especially love this line: “pouring silver liquid from the sky.” Perfect. Thanks so much for sharing!

  5. Laura,
Your poetry reaction metaphor for “Moonlight” comforts readers and the one for “It is Night” is humorous and very imaginative! I would never have thought of some of the personification examples you included. Loved them both.

Glad you got to make both trips. Enjoy the holidays!

  7. I am enjoying your poems about picture books. I used them as models for my students to write poems about the books they are reading. Alongside Bookspeak, you are an inspiration to young writers. (and old ones, like me.)

    1. Thank you, Margaret–that means a lot:>) Glad your students enjoy the snow. I was looking around in the Settings, and it offered snow through March or something, so I checked it–why not!

  9. Love them both, but the unique idea of where (& how) inanimate objects would sleep is unique & fun. Thanks Laura-will share with others at school. My colleagues will love them too!

  11. What terrific poems, Laura. I’m particularly drawn to MOONLIGHT, but the look/sound of the book AND your poem. Just lovely 🙂
