The Scraps of the Year–Happy Holidays!

I love evergreens draped in snow, and I took this pic a few weeks ago. This filter on it made the bare trees even more beautiful, though. So stark and sharp and delicate. I thought about how this filter emphasized light and pale colors, and how even barrenness turns to beauty. This made me think about how we do this in our own lives–take hard times, or ugly acts, or difficult losses, and turn them into our unique, hopeful lives.

So, I’m using this as my online holiday wishes this year.

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from Laura Purdie Salas

Whatever and however you celebrate, I am wishing you a magical, wonderful end to 2016, and a new year that finds you stitching together this year’s scraps into a brand new glorious creation!

xoxo,
Laura

[Tech details, since someone usually asks :>) I snapped a picture of evergreens recently. I really liked the pic and was amazed at the way it changed in different Picsart filters on my Android phone. (I used the same image with a different filter for Carol Varsalona’s winter gallery poem when it’s time for that.) Then I used the paid WordSwag app–my favorite!–to put my poem on the image.]

  1. I love how you used a quilt metaphor for your poem, a collection of scraps made beautiful by skillful hands. Happy holidays to you!

    1. Thank you, Margaret. I’ve always wished I liked quilting or detail sewing. No such luck, but I find the sewing metaphors spilling out at times. (I can sew the basics, but…)

  2. Quite astounding Laura; photo, poetry and the analogy of quilt/winter scraps. Wishing you and yours and day filled with peace, warmth and lots of fun foods and a new year full of good health and much happiness.

  3. Wishing you Happy Holiday times, too, Laura. What a gorgeous way to create the photo, and I love the quilt scraps of your poem, “stitch sky to snow to frozen ground”. (Stay warm too!)
