Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
Here’s my final poem I wrote for the Madness Poetry competition created by Ed DeCaria–this is the one that kicked me from the tourney in the Final Four, where it was beaten by a fabulous Cinderella poem by Amelia Shearer. Our word was “spurious.”
I had a nature poem and this poem, and I ended up going with this one. I was trying to get out of my comfort zone a little bit. This poem is also quite a bit longer than my usual poems. (When you get to the final rounds of Madness Poetry, you are “allowed” more characters. Ack!) That was a challenge for me, as I prefer short poems. Anyway, this is my final poem from the Madness Poetry competition–it was great fun, and I recommend applying next year if you’re a poet. And if you’re not participating as a poet, but you’re a teacher, make sure to sign up to be a voting classroom!
And for lots of terrific poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with teacher and poet Heidi Mordhorst at My Juicy Little Universe.
