My husband, Randy, hurriedly helping me make more WATER CAN BE… bookmarks right before I left in the morningRocco A from School Library Journal, who welcomed me, got my nametag, made me feel at home at the cocktail party, etc.Lunch and a wonderful time chatting outside afterward with fabulous writers Liz Rusch, Joyce Sidman, and Loree Griffin Burns
An excellent presentation by the above three writers:
- Loree: “This book [HANDLE WITH CARE] started because I saw something unusual. And I gave myself the gift of asking about it. That’s one of the most important things we can do. I ask the questions, but more importantly, giving myself time to find the answers.”
- Liz: She talked about how all the cool stuff the Mars Rovers [MIGHTY MARS ROVERS] made the expedition feel like an adventure story. She loves presenting science as an adventure!
- Joyce: “Watson [her dog] goes out every day and finds fascinating things. Eager…in the moment. This is how I want to be…sniffing, eating, rolling in the world!”
Daryl Grabarek from SLJ introducing all three of them with such admiration and affection
Walking around during the cocktail reception, sharing hot-off-the-press copies of A ROCK CAN BE…, which doesn’t come out until March 2015
Visiting with Nancy Carlson, picture book icon whose latest book is the unexpectedly cute SOMETIMES YOU BARF
Wishing I had something as cool as illustrated barf bags to give out as promo items!
Going to an absolutely lovely dinner at Pazzaluna hosted by Lerner Publishing. Nancy and I got to share a bit of our journey, I ate wonderful food, and I had terrific conversations with librarians (both local, like Wendy Woodfill, and from around the country).
