[my life] Happy Anniversary, Randy!

Today, I have been married 25 years to Randy Salas. I met him in my first creative writing class in college (taught by Wyatt Wyatt–that’s right–at the University of Central Florida). What a great class–I found both a new career I loved and a future husband I loved!

I know some writers whose families are less than encouraging of their writing dreams. But I am lucky enough to have a built-in support system for my writing. Randy has always encouraged me and offered support while I’ve tried to make my writing dreams work. It’s why I dedicated my first trade book, Stampede!, to him, and why every book I publish couldn’t exist without him. Here we are over winter break in December.

Oops, here’s the one I meant to get, though the above is how I take most pictures:>)

Happy Anniversary, Randy! Our story is my very favorite one.

Addendum: We decided not to buy gifts for our anniversary because we’re hoping to celebrate with a trip later this year. I wrote Randy a poem, and he made me a mix tape (OK, a mix CD). Can’t wait to listen to it on my way to my school visit today. And he sang this song and made this video:>) Isn’t he the cutest guy in the world?

  1. Happy Anniversary! 25 is quite a milestone. I loved seeing all the photos, Laura. Best to you & your husband for many, many more.

  3. Awh, happy anniversary you too! I have no sound at the moment, I’ll watch it later. *throwsconfetti*

  5. Sweetness. Congratulations and may you enjoy many more! And yes to trips over material gifts… love needs to be experienced in all sorts of locales. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Irene. And that’s so true. Our trip to Scotland (our only trip ever overseas) 5 years ago was one of the highlights of my life and our marriage so far. And many other smaller, cheaper trips. Exploring the world as a pair–nothing beats it!

    1. Uh oh…precious? Wow, we get called a lot of things, but never precious! I am going to run with it, however. It might be our only chance to be considered too cute for words!

  7. Happy Anniversary! I’ve always loved “Five O’Clock World”, and Randy sounds better singing this song than the original! Great voice!

    1. Thanks, Linda–It’s a great song. And Randy was so pleased with your comment. He is not happy with his voice ever since throat surgery a number of years ago.
